Report on Door at xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The door has lost tension, overloading the motor during the opening cycle.
During re-tensioning it was obvious that the cast iron saddle on the motor side of the door was missing allowing the axle to sit on the composite anchor block. Only one anchor tube was engaged and neither safety screws on both the anchors tubes were tightened.
On the non motor side of the door the axle was bolted directly on to the bracket and the saddle part of the U clamp was fitted above the axle. These faults were the reason for the axle losing tension.
The main mounting brackets are fitted to the wrong sides which means that the manual release could not be disengaged and is probably the reason that the motor body has been fitted upside down. The weight bar is also missing and I can see no evidence of it ever being fitted.
The most serious fault is the fact that the guides have not been cut down to suit the mounted height of the door and due to this have been in contact with the polyglide, not only damaging the polyglide but also the composite material that is a major part of the door curtain which has been cut and become separated from the door.
In 18 years of fitting and maintaining Gliderol Doors I have never before seen damage as bad as this, even on doors of over 15 years of age. I have never seen a door fitted so badly and also having the potential of being dangerous due to the fact that the considerable tension in door axle could not be locked in place due to the missing anchor block on the motor side & the incompetent way the other side was assembled.
Yours Sincerely
Clive A. Powell
